LONG, DARK VOYAGE TO URANUS BY SAWDUST CITY BREWING CO.
- STYLE: Russian Imperial Stout
- IBU: 60
- COUNTRY: Canada
- REGION: Gravenhurst, ON
- BREWERY: Sawdust City Brewing Co.
What’s in a name?
Uranus by any other name would smell so sweet. That was written many eons ago by Toftorg Golshop, Ruler of the Third Empire of Uranus on one of his many voyages to earth (it was stolen and rewritten by “you know who” sometime later).
And while on earth for one of those trips, Toftorg grew fond of the rich, robust stouts of Northern England. Designed to withstand the gruelling voyage from Earth to Uranus, Long Dark Voyage is a Uranal stout of the highest order. Tongue crushingly bitter and dry as a bone, this dark chocolate treat is quite dangerous and will sneak up on you from behind if you don’t keep your wits about you.
You’ve been warned!
Appearance | Pitch black with a creamy mocha head that laces around the glass.
Smell | Chocolate (light & dark), caramel, coffee, vanilla, and roasted malts.
Taste | Dark bitter chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, hops, tartness, and alcohol.
Aftertaste | Dry finish with bitterness, chocolate, and coffee.
Overall | What a blast-off from Sawdust City Brewing Co.! This brew is an ample contender for the tastebuds. It’s a full-bodied brew that is dangerously delicious and bold with notes of coffee and dark chocolate. The aroma is initially sweet with chocolatey goodness, which is abruptly counteracted with its unassailable booziness. If not a fan of the strong bitterness and high alcohol percentage, take another flight somewhere other than Uranus. It’s too bad that Uranus is a Fall seasonal at LCBOs. It would make a fantastic Winter warmer, especially during those long winters – or unrelenting ice storms! If the drinker dares to go on the long, dark voyage… Prepare for it.
So long, 2013!
