REVIEW: Stone Wall Stout by The Publican House Brewery

  • STYLE: Dry Stout
  • ABV: 4.6%
  • IBU: N/A
  • COUNTRY: Canada
  • REGION: Peterborough, ON
  • BREWERY: The Publican House Brewery

From The Publican House;

Our all-barley stout is mildly carbonated, with a bouquet of fruitcake on the nose. A mocha coloured head tops this decadent brew, with espresso and dark chocolate notes and a dry finish. A cold weather warmer, we craft this beer in late winter.

Appearance | Deep brown-black with a tan head that laces thickly against the glass.

Smell |  Roasted, dried fruit, chocolate, hint of smokiness, and hint of coffee.

Taste | Nuts, smoke (good and bad), toasted malts, hint of dried fruits, hops, and chocolate.

Aftertaste | Dry and lightly roasted finish.

Overall | From the Electric City comes this seasonal brew, an all-barley stout that’s brewed in late Winter. It’s exclusively available at the brewery.  It’s a roasty and malty brew that’s surprisingly light (4.6% ABV). It has a decent hop presence.  This is a decent stout, not outstanding.   For those who don’t want to drink the heavy, strong, Imperial Stouts, this is an alternative choice.

Exclusively available at the Brewery.

  1. I live in the Peterborough area and have yet to try it. Now you made me feel guilty so I am going to pick some up this week. Thanks for the review.

    1. I’m not sure if they still have this one in stock. They do have House Ale and Square Nail Pale Ale though. House Ale is decent for a patio beer, nothing special. Square Nail, well, that’s a different story. I will be posting a review on that shortly!
