REVIEW: Farm Cat Saison by Barncat Artisan Ales
Yup, back to back reviews of Barncat Artisan Ales. I picked up 1L growlers of Larry (IPA) and Farm Cat (Saison). Today, on that night in Canada, this is Farm Cat, a beautiful saison that has been brewed with wheat, oats, and rye as well as hopped with Cascade. You’re really missing out on Barncat Artisan Ales if you haven’t been to.
From the brewery;

Wait a second, why is Farm Cat in a Black Swan growler? Well, Barncat will happily fill any growlers for you!
Unlike its other beer in the line-up, Farm Cat has an appearance of a light-straw colour with haziness and a white head that quickly disappeared. The refreshing aroma is of citrusy, apricot and plums.
On the palate, Farm Cat is light with tartness, peppery, and citrusy. It’s a thirst-quenching and smooth Saison that’s 5.8% . Again, there’s no mention of IBU but that’s okay. It’s almost a medium-bodied Saison which can fill you up quite nice after a few pints of this.
That being said, Farm Cat is a tart Saison that has subtle notes of peppery, stone fruit, and citrus zest. It’s just perfect for this night in Canada with The Tragically Hip’s final performance in Kingston.
If you haven’t been to Barncat yet, make it so with your next visit. However, their hours are quite limited to the weekend (Friday to Sunday) – check their website for updates and hours. They are currently filling 2L & 1L growlers at the moment. They are filling OTHER breweries’ growlers which is…quite awesome. Even I do keep a growler or two on hands in case, I decided to purchase Barncat’s growlers because I just love their logo (and the secondary logo with the Maze.) At the time of this blog post, they are selling Rat Queen in 750ml bottles and it’s quite limited.
And Farm Cat is a 3.5 out of 5 pints.
