REVIEW: Dinner Jacket O’ Red IPA by Arch Brewing Co.

  • STYLE: American IPA
  • ABV: 6.3%
  • IBU: 60
  • COUNTRY: Canada
  • REGION: Guelph, ON
  • BREWERY: Arch Brewing Company

This luscious ruby-coloured ale combines bold caramel flavours of pale and melanoidin malts and the creamy texture of oats with the bracing crispness of North American hops for an unforgettable taste experience.

Appearance | Amber with a lazily off-white head that laces around the glass.

Smell |  Malts, citrus, hops, and notes of caramel.

Taste | Fruits, roasted malts, citrus, bitter, oats, and pine.

Aftertaste |  Dry, bitter, and citrus.

Overall |  Where’s your dinner jacket? Well, it will be at the LCBO in February (hopefully!). This is a medium bodied brew that’s very satisfying to the taste buds.   The oats aren’t overwhelming; it presents a strong balance between hops and malts.  Arch Brewing Co. is a contract brewery at Wellington Brewery in Guelph, ON under the guide of Brewmaster Paul Dickey (Black Oak Brewing Co.).   Hopefully  Arch Brewing Co. will open a building in the York Region, as planned, to share more delightful brews like this one.

Note: Thanks to Billy & Suzie of Arch Brewing Co. for providing The Brew Head a couple samples of Dinner Jacket O’ Red IPA.

Update: February 7th, 2014 – Dinner Jacket O’ Red IPA is now available in LCBO.  If you don’t see it at your local LCBO, please ask for it.
