REVIEW: Chocolate Milk Stout (2013) by Wellington Brewery

  • STYLE: Milk / Sweet Stout
  • ABV: 7.2%
  • IBU: 45
  • COUNTRY: Canada
  • REGION: Guelph, ON
  • BREWERY: Wellington Brewery

Back by popular demand! Chocolate Milk Stout is a robust and decadent chocolate stout brewed with fair trade Peruvian cocoa powder, lactose (milk sugar) and a touch of flaked oats. With an inviting aroma of dark chocolate and a silky smooth unfiltered malt body, this unique stout is the perfect winter beer.

Appearance | Pitch black with a creamy texture mocha head that settles quickly.

Smell | Chocolate, roasted malts, sweetness, nuttiness, peat, coffee, and espresso.

Taste | Chocolate (dark & light), coffee, sweetness, lactose, grains, and roasted malts.

Aftertaste | Smooth finish with chocolate and coffee.

Overall | Moooo!  It’s back!   The second edition in the Welly Re-booted series brings back the popular Chocolate Milk Stout that was a runaway winner last winter.  At 7.2%,  the ABV is masked completely, which can be dangerous.  Like the previous review of this brew, it’s a sweet, filling brew that’s light and smooth to drink.    This year, Wellington Brewery made sure that there would be enough of this delicious brew to go around.   The Brew Head wouldn’t be surprised if they keep releasing this every winter as this is a favourite within the craft beer scene.  Welcoming the first snow storm of Winter will be more enjoyable every year with a few of these stocked in the fridge! Wellington Brewery, this beer makes Canada’s exhaustive cold-season a lot more bearable!

Note: This ‘Welly Re-booted’ editon of Chocolate Milk Stout is long sold out.  It was only available at the Brewery and on tap at selected bars across Ontario.
