From Wellington Brewery,

The Welly One-Off series is a selection of small batch specialty beers created by our brewmasters. These unique beers often use experimental ingredients or unique brewing methods and are a way for our brewers to test out new recipes, throw ingredients together and see what works. These beers are made in very small batches and are only available from the brewery and on tap at select bars & restaurants.

A Belgian style Saison brewed with locally sourced pumpkins from Strom’s Farm. With a vibrant orange hue and a rich pumpkin flavour alongside nutmeg, cinnamon, and ginger spice this is a refreshing and unique pumpkin beer.

Appearance | Opaque, orangey-red, with an off-white head

Smell | Cinnamon, pumpkin, Belgian yeast, and citrus (orange)

Taste | Cloves, malts (faint), citrus, yeast, bread, and spices

Aftertaste | Citrus, cloves, and bread

Overall | Gourd’n Lightfoot made its debut at the Wellington Realists Party 2013 and rumour has it that this weekend will be its farewell tour (so head over to the brewery and get some before it’s gone!).   This is a crisp medium-bodied brew bursting with the flavours of Fall.  The taste of pumpkin is well-balanced, not overwhelming.   This is a great addition to the Welly One-Off series.   At 4.7%, this would make a very enjoyable and delicious session brew. Farewell Gourd’N Lightfoot- hoping for an encore next year!

Food Pairing | Roasted chicken with butternut squash soup or roasted roots.

Brewery | $3.75 | 473ml | Limited Edition (Almost out!)
