REVIEW: Hefeweizen by Smithworks Brewing Co.

  • STYLE: Hefeweizen
  • ABV: 5%
  • IBU:N/A
  • COUNTRY: Canada
  • REGION: Peterborough, ON
  • BREWERY: Smithworks Brewing Co.

From Smithworks Brewing Co;

 Our inaugural beer is Hefeweizen, an unfiltered natural wheat beer. This is a rich bubbly thirst quencher. The aromas and flavours are bready, spicy and fruity.  Hefeweizen will be available by the glass in our tasting room or by the bottle from our retail store.

Appearance | Cloudy yellow with a fizzy white head that quickly dissipates.

Smell | Bananas, citrusy, biscuits, and sweet.

Taste | Tartness, bananas, citrusy, biscuits, and hint of spices.

Aftertaste | Tart finish with lemon, bananas, and spices.

Overall | And the second Craft Brewery has popped up in Peterborough, ON (Hometown of The Brew Head & The Publican House is the other craft brewery).   Their flagship beer is a Hefeweizen and what a delicious treat it is!   It’s a unfiltered light-bodied beer that’s very enjoyable and sessionable.  It’s a great thirst-quenching beer that’s smooth and light, especially this time of the year.  It should be noted that Smithworks Brewing Co. is actually in the old Kawartha Lakes Brewery location.  Although it is in a industrial area, it’s not that far from Lansdowne Street.  Take a little detour and pick up some of this delicious treat for the Summer!

Food Pairing | Steak, Corn on the Cob, or Cold Pasta Salad

  1. Big fan of the site- I highly recommend their other beers. The crystal (sp?) beer Smithwork’s just released is a hefeweizen brewed without yeast available on tap at their brewery and at the Ashburnham Ale house in Peterborough. They’ve also released a blonde you can find on site or at St. Veronus. Would love to here what you have to say about them. Cheers.

    1. Sounds great! I’m hoping to try the Blonde the next time I come back down to Peterborough. It’s good to hear that local pubs are carrying a local brewery on tap! Very happy to hear that!
